At least 56 people [CNN now saying 60], more than half children, were killed Sunday in an Israeli airstrike that crushed a building, the deadliest attack of the campaign against Hezbollah. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice decided to return early to Washington with her diplomatic mission derailed after Lebanese leaders told her not to come.
And you paid for it.
Update: 15 of the dead were crippled children.

As nasty as the IDF can get, in a way I have more respect for them than the US re: Iraq or Serbia. These countries never attacked us. Hezobollah did indeed attack Israel. If a group of 4th generation warriors in Mexico started lobbing rockets into Texas, I don’t think there’d be much debate about what would happen next.
Not that destroying Lebanon is justified. But then again, neither was shock and awe in Baghdad.
But that’s neither here nor there. No need for US tax dollars to defend Israel when they do a more than adequate job of doing it by themselves.
War is a human rights violation in and of itself, because modern weapons target and or terrorize civilians.
So, yes, dead children is a terrible tragedy. But they always seem to be a by -product of war no matter how “noble” or “disreputable” the cause.
So why doesn’t the United States have a Peace Department? War is an absolute failure of human beings to treat each other as such, and is the excuse to murder and slaughter with impunity. Why do people get so surprised when this stuff happens?
Too tired to make much sense now. Sorry.
I don’t think the analogy holds. If Mexico started lobbing rockets – yes, we would go ballistic. But Lebanon did not – Hezbollah did (if you believe the reports).
This is more analogous to Chiapas Rebels (not the Mexican Government) taking this action. If so, we would deploy special forces to deal with the problem after getting the green light from the Government (who would give it, lest they be seen as complicit).
We would NOT go ballistic on the Civilian infrastructure and make the Capital (Mexico City) a living hell w/ 1 million people displaced. The Likudist thugs are animals and need to be treated as such. – Steve C
Yesha Rabbinical Council: During time of war, enemy has no innocents

this speaks volumes.
That’s sick. If I was God, I’d punish whoever wrote that satanic shit.
WOW! The Yesha Rabbinical sound just like those Atheist Objectivists at the Ayn Rand Institute.
Amazing how different paths can lead to the same destination.

JimBo has this Haaretz article linked on his blog.
Israel has made no real attempts to hide the fact that they plan on sending Lebanon back “20 years” in their history and that they target civilian infrastructure. Then you’ve got supporters like Dershowitz talking about how civilians are fair game and should be put on a contiuum based on how much they deserved to be killed. It’s sick.
The only good thing about Qana is that it’s turned wolrd opinion more against Israel.
There’s a great comment in that Haaretz article:
“And indeed, instead of demanding that Hezbollah be dismantled, the people of Lebanon want revenge, and they want it now. That is their response to the killing of 750 civilians and the destruction of thousands of homes, bridges, roads, villages and towns, putting Lebanon 20 years in the past. “
Who could’ve predicted it?
