In Stan from Southpark’s voice: Holy Shit, Dude!

Operation Comeback
By Joshua Muravchik

Neoconservatives have the president’s ear, but they also have lots of baggage. To stay relevant, they must admit mistakes, embrace public diplomacy, and start making the case for bombing Iran.

RE: How to Save the Neocons
….
Prepare to Bomb Iran. Make no mistake, President Bush will need to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities before leaving office. It is all but inconceivable that Iran will accept any peaceful inducements to abandon its drive for the bomb. Its rulers are religio-ideological fanatics who will not trade what they believe is their birthright to great power status for a mess of pottage. Even if things in Iraq get better, a nuclear-armed Iran will negate any progress there. Nothing will embolden terrorists and jihadists more than a nuclear-armed Iran. The global thunder against Bush when he pulls the trigger will be deafening, and it will have many echoes at home. It will be an injection of steroids for organizations such as MoveOn.org. We need to pave the way intellectually now and be prepared to defend the action when it comes. In particular, we need to help people envision what the world would look like with a nuclear-armed Iran. Apart from the dangers of a direct attack on Israel or a suitcase bomb in Washington, it would mean the end of the global nonproliferation regime and the beginning of Iranian dominance in the Middle East.

This defense should be global in scope. There is a crying need in today’s ideological wars for something akin to the Congress for Cultural Freedom of the Cold War, a global circle of intellectuals and public figures who share a devotion to democracy. The leaders of this movement might include Tony Blair, Vaclav Havel, and Anwar Ibrahim.

Why I disagree with this particular ex-communist turned neo-fascist warmonger on behalf of Israel, the nation he puts first:

1. Iran cannot make a nuke. Dr. Prather says so, and he was never a communist and has never put the interests of a foreign nation before his own so I believe him more than Mr. Muravchick.
2. If they could, it is still none of America’s Goddamn business.
3. If they could, there is nothing to indicate that it would empower Sunni jihadists. Comrade Muravchick’s war for Israel in Iraq has taken care of that.
4. The backlash will indeed be deafening here and abroad. The future of America’s relationship with the world - and the citizens of this country - be damned, Israel has a make-believe bomb program they need destroyed.
5. Liberty haters on the left will indeed be empowered and it will be this ex-commie’s fault.
6. Democracy sucks. The fact that this scum is anywhere near the halls of power proves it. Why would we want to spread a system like this?
7. Anyone who starts their article by crying that all their critics hate Jews is guilty of acting like a son of a bitch and knows it.

So much your application to be a fellow at AEI, Scott.

How on earth does this Muravchick and others hold to the preposturous concept that an Israeli mandated, American air attack on Iranian Nuclear Facilities will somehow indemnify them in the future? In the final analysis, i.e. long term, it would provide Israel with just about as much security, again at American expense, as the air attack on Pearl Harbor did the Empire of Japan…Conversely, The State of Israel possesses some 400 nuclear weapons ranging from low yield devices, to thermonuclear along with sophisticated delivery systems and is privy to US Satellite Intelligence. How, armed to the teeth and prepared as they are, can they consider Iran an “Existential Threat?” If anything, the Israelis have the equation backwards. Other than certain annihilation, what would Iran gain by a pre-emptive nuclear attack on Israel? Even if it had the means? Maybe Mr. Muravchik could enlighten me before taking it upon himself to “Pave the way intellectually, and prepare to defend the [Military] action when it comes.” Accordingly this must serve as an example of the more belligerent, warped, and antagonistic rhetoric I’ve been given to observe of late. The neo-cons do indeed “have lots of baggage,” far more of it than this arrogant, irresponsible fool seems to presently realize…I would remind him that as Orwell noted in 1984 “It is not easy to become sane.”
