Limbaugh Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

This man has never met a war he didn’t like. Before the Iraq invasion, Limbaugh was eagerly agitating for a full-scale attack on the entire Middle-East (except one country - guess which one?), beginning with Iran. That idea would have led to, oh, say tens of thousands of dead Americans, and oh, say, hundreds of thousands of dead Arabs, civil war, possibly world war etc.

So this is the man that the Landmark Legal Foundation nominated for the award that Nobel wanted to go to the one who “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding of peace congresses.” Reduction of standing armies? That’s Limbaugh’s worst nightmare. However, read the fine print:

“Limbaugh serves as an unpaid member of Landmark’s Board of Advisors.”

Limbaugh had misgivings about Clinton’s wars.

First, misgivings is not the same thing as opposition. Second, just to keep his faux right base pacified, Limbaugh would have to be critical of any action (or inaction) taken (or not taken) by Clinton. Thirdly, even the most ravenous belligerent hawk must have been puzzled by Clinton’s TIMING (didn’t he bomb during or on the eve of impeachment proceedings).

Oh, ok, I think he should get it then… he’s a shining beacon of hope. I used to love it when Harry Browne would say in a sarcastic way, “But George Bush says freedoms on the march…”

Yes, Desert Fox (named after Rommel the Nazi) began on the day that the full House was to begin debating the Articles of Impeachment.

It may have saved his presidency. You know how much Americans like murdering Iraqis.

…Yeah, it would seem that: There are Wars, and then there’re Wars…A Leftist Clinton bombed Slavic Orthodox Christians with the substantiating rationale of saving their Muslim counterparts from, “Genocide.” It’s seldom discussed how he damn near committed US ground forces into that mess, but Milosevic threw in the towel something like a week before he was ready to do just that under The War Powers Act—which to my mind is un Constitutional—In any case the sonofabitch was exceptionally lucky that it didn’t come down to that…or US Forces would still be involved in combat there. Thus it stood to reason that a Conservative propagandist the stripe of Limbaugh would instantly attack Bullshit Bill at that juncture, while other Rightists trashed him for shooting Cruise Missiles at a “Baby food factory in Sudan,” and on and on…Then the hold over of Bush I’s policy of ordering humanitarian relief mission into Somalia, which quickly turned into a brief war of occupation…and still infuriates neo-Cons as they consider the siege of Mogadishu the place where Bin Laden made his bones. Never mind we actively supported the motherfuckers in Afghanistan in the 80’s. Clinton saw the handwriting on the wall allright, he knew better than to push his luck a second time and withdrew, precisely as Reagan did after The ‘83 bombing of a Marine barracks in Beirut…The Decider however? He won’t even read the fuckin’ newspaper, let alone the identical hand writing on the wall. Consequently, he’s not going to stop until he smokes Tehran and sees the price of Oil futures soar to $200 a bbl, and generally plunges the whole fuckin’ region into a irreconcilable conflict over Oil Policy and Israeli Security concerns that may well see the first use of Nuclear Weapons since ‘45…No matter how objective we get on this web-log Gentlemen: I think the consensus here is The US and its “Coalition Allies” are not going to withdraw from Iraq. They will launch an attack on Iran…and thus undertake to dominate the region one way, i.e. first provoking and establishing an [sic] internecine blood bath we’re presently witness to that will evolve into a partitioning with the states manned by US Puppet Political Regimes—Or more Brute Fuckin’ Military Force…This so called “Debate on Iraq” now mouthed and played on Capitol Hill is a buncha bullshit, and all of us here know it. They’ll resolve this debacle with Plata o Plomo as the Mexican’s say…and there it is…As far as giving Limbaugh a Peace prize? Well shit man, sumbitches up’n give one to Kissenger didn’t they? To sum this up: Giving Limbaugh any Prize for Peace is like giving Charles Manson an award for his ceaseless efforts to promote family values—It’s a fuckin’ joke, and not a very good one. Go figure, because this is going to get worse. A lot worse. Remember I told you so…Worse still, I don’t see that we can do a helluva lot about it.

Limbaugh objected to the “lefty” nature of the Clinton campaigns. He didn’t like that they were of a “peacekeeping” nature, rather than merciless, brute force exerted over a civilian population whose government wasn’t towing the NATO line. Presumably, had Clinton simply bombed more civilians, Limbaugh would have been fine with it. Except that Clinton wasn’t a member of the right party. Limbaugh’s position on the aggressive use of force hasn’t changed since the first time I listened to his show in 1991.

No way, there was nothing peacekeeping about Hillary’s air war against Serbia.

But that’s how Limbaugh saw it. Also, right-wingers have a problem with the “UN Peacekeeping Force” label. They’d rather DC was in charge during their slaughter campaigns. It’s all rock n’ roll to me.

Rommel was the head General under Hitler. I don’t think he was ever an official Nazi party member although I might be wrong. I believe he took part in an unsuccessful assassination plot late in the war and was either executed or committed suicide in lieu of execution.

Erwin Rommel was a professional soldier in service of the German government. He wrote a famous book called “Infantry Attacks”, that was also used by the US military. He used his position as a famous and distinguished Field Marshall to disobey numerous Nazi orders, including one that called for enemy soldiers to be shot, even if they surrendered first. He probably took part in one of the attempts on Hitler’s life, was imprisoned for it, and committed suicide rather than face execution.
