I will be interviewing Erping Zhang, Director of the Association for Asian Research in New York City. His research focuses on China’s political economy, foreign policy, social change, and human rights issues. The former Kennedy School of Government Mason Fellow will be discussing the Falun Gong. Tune into BlogTalkRadio at 4:30 PM Pacific.

Excellent show. There was so much to cover there, too bad you didn’t have an hour. One point that I would have loved to have seen discussed…..The US is financing this war (in large part) by foreign powers (most notably China) holding US debt…..How does that compromise us in terms of pressuring China change policies (vis - a - vis) political prisoners, organ harvesting? Although considering what the US has been up to lately, I don’t think we are in a position of much moral authority on the subject. Nonetheless, I do believe the massive amount of foreign held (US) debt is the elephant in the room on many of these human rights issues.
The questions that I wrote down are different then the ones I asked. I didn’t expect Zhang to be so wide ranging but that was the right touch for an introduction to the subject. The question I was most ambivalent about was the one that began, “In the ideal situation, what would the US government do…”
I want to break away from the nation-state framework when asking guests for international solutions. The broader question that should underly the foreign policy interviews is what is the anarcho-capitalist solution to international conflict and human rights violations.
I tend to agree regarding direct state action (war, sanctions, etc….) but I don’t have the problem with prominant political figures using there office as a bully pulpit to create public consciousness about matters that the MSM doesn’t want to touch - provided there isn’t a legislative (ie compulsary) component. Frankly I don’t know what an anarcho - capitalist solution is to organ harvesting abroad. Presumably, the US would not be able to prohibit its citizens in purchasing organs - even those from murdered (possibly political) prisoners. Also, Non - interventionism, would prohibit the US Government from trying to dictate the internal policies of a sovereign government……….As a practical matter, major US corps seeking business in China would probably want us to Shut the FXXX Up about this and (oh yes) they have lots of advertising dollars to “vote” with if any major network wanted to do an expose. About the only guys vocal on this have been World Net Daily, and that probably because some neocons have a hardon for war with China.
One quick thought…..Obviously a heart transplant “donor” dies as the result of this “donation” however I rather doubt that if his/her other organs are intact they would simply “throw away” the rest. I would venture they probably remove everything saleable and store in dry ice (or whatever storage technique is used) and then cremate the remains (skeleton and skin, I would imagine). There is a real perverted, cold, efficiency to this whole way of thinking - the individual human person as commodity.
Okay…………….I’ll bite……What is the anarcho - capitalist solution to political prisoners being murdered so their organs can be harvested and sold to foreigners (including Americans) who have the cash to pay for these items?
This goes back to 1994, but I think its still worth a look…….

The execution procedure prescribed by Chinese law (shooting in the back of the head), is sometimes violated in order to expedite harvesting of prisoners’ organs. According to Chinese legal authorities, some executions are even deliberately mishandled to ensure that the prisoners are not yet dead when their organs are removed.
The below quote is excerpted from the above link.
The lack of adequate judicial safeguards in China, coupled with the existence of government directives allowing political offenders and other nonviolent criminals to be sentenced to death, virtually guarantee that a significant number of wrongful executions will take place. Some of those unfairly sentenced may be unwitting organ donors.
The use of condemned prisoners’ organs involves members of the medical profession in the execution process in violation of international standards of medical ethics. Chinese doctors participate in pre-execution medical tests, matching of donors with recipients and scheduling of operations, often on a first-paid, first-served basis. Surgeons are commonly present at execution grounds to perform on-site removal of vital organs.
An anarchist society wouldn’t have political prisoners and also wouldn’t be concerned with the policies of states on the other side of the world. The criminal nature of the State ensures it will always commit crimes, and if there’s enough demand for something it will always be supplied by someone. Making it illegal won’t stop it.
