After listening to Scott’s interview with Alexander Cockburn, and his discussion on Rumsfeld, I’d say “Idiocracy is already here, and it starts from the top down”.

Between idiot number 1 and idiot number 2 (rumsfeld) stands Dick Cheney. And he is possibly either hopped up on heart medications or, if not, may be suffering from the impact of prolonged high blood pressure, that could lead to say a mini-stroke that has impacted his mental functioning. So you confuse a friend for a pheasant and shoot him.

It’s not uncommon for top politicians to hide their medical conditions from the voters. Wilson remained in office when he should have been in hospital. The press hid the extent of FDR’s handicaps from the public. Churchill was kept running with whiskey in the 1940s and amphetamines in the 1950s and JFK was on a cocktail of amphetamines and the then new synthetic cortisol that, according to this source has the following side effects:

“This new energy-boosting wonder drug was readily available by the end of the 1950s. With cortisone stashed in safety deposit boxes all over the US during his campaign trail, and its prescription by three independent physicians, it is possible that JFK was taking well over the recommended dose. Mental side effects could include increased anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia and an increased libido..”

So we have two idiots under the adult supervision of a man who is possibly not functioning on all pistons.

Nothing like good satire but nothing funnier than unintentional satire like Debbie Schlussel.

I had not heard of this movie…. or Schlussel until I read Justin’s recent blog.

There is a clue for a revolutionary strategy in the aftermath of 9-11. Do you remember when Bush had to come out and encourage people to go to the malls and shop and to get back to normal life? That indicates the fragility of the present "system" in the sense that if people simply stayed home and stopped feeding the beast for a month or so the economy would pretty much collapse and force the establishment's hand. I can see visions of troops coming to your house and forcing you to "go shopping" at gunpoint.... Gandhi had it pretty much figured out.

According to “American Conservative” film reviewer Steve Sailer, Fox wanted to “kill idiocracy”.

Sailer says that the official spin was that “Fox’s advertisers didn’t like the look of it”. Sailer disagrees and reckons “No, the best explanation is that Fox wanted to kill “Idiocracy,” probably because they feared a controversy over eugenics..”

Maybe eugenics had nothing to do with it. Maybe it’s portrait of dumbed down democracy at work was the real problem.

Of course Fox does “The Simpsons” too, and Springfield didn’t too well when it was run by all the smart people either. (See ‘They saved Lisa’s brain’ episode).
