Hey people, help me out here…
You see, I just don’t know what to make of the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, recent statements by His Royal Majesty, the President on His Absolute Authority, and a number of other items whose veracity may or may not hail from the ninth circle of kookdom.
My feelings occasionally run into a sense of foreboding and dread when I think about what could be in store if certain trends are carried out to their logical conclusion…
Sometimes it seems to me like there is a giant expansion of Federal Power that is underway, leading up to despotism and martial law. That all it will take is one more big terrorist event, and a national emergency will be declared, and then our Republic gets its first permanent Emperor.
(Is this way out of hand, paranoia? I like being told I am crazy, and occasionally need to be brought down to earth. Don’ be shhhhy.)
After all, a government that runs a gun-to-the-head slave society with 1984ish “telescreens” political prisoners and labor camps doesn’t run efficiently, does it? It does not make good money. It does not generate good tax revenue. Is this fact not obvious to others?
But if so, then why are there reports of plans for giant internment camps and processing centers? … Or are those just fiction …?
On the other hand, could not a giant police state in the country formerly known as “America” be set up to benefit a few select interests who have duped a few more to do their bidding? Could a crisis be made to appear bad enough so that a majority would willingly kiss their rights goodbye?
If so, could not these plans be detected and leaked? If so, would people even care?
What the heck are we going to do when all ths hits the fan?
I’ve watched Red Dawn more than a few times. But I am not a kid anymore, and I do have certain fears of mortality and cringe at the thought of bringing torture on my family ala some kind of banana republic.
Does anyone else get these odd forebodings? How does one deal with them rationally?
Can someone give me a fact check and help me sort out the raving lunatic assertions from the facts, here? I would deeply appreciate it.

This post resembles a fishing expedition to see who and what we are thinking. Could Oscar be a “gatekeeper for the establishment” as one of the regular contributers use the term. Either that, he should go read American Free Press, the former Spotlight, as they have been writing about this stuff since the Seventies ( most of which is true).
Thanks, phil.
BTW, I’m just a regular guy trying to make it and survive, and I care about our liberty. My influence is pretty much restricted to my cat, and on lucky days, my wife and kid. So “gatekeeper” I am most assuredly not.
This was admittedly just a rambling post with no purpose. Apologies, please, I am tired after a long day..
Ah. American Free Press. I am too much of a “Jew lover” to get much out of that [comment rendered tongue in cheek with a sense of dull irony intended], obviously. Must mean that I am genuinely looney, not in a contrived way
No really, while I am genuinely concerned about some crazy stuff happening to this country, I do not subscribe to or find remotely palatable that anti-semitic bollocks.
It’s really odd how being a perfectly normal government hater automatically gets tagged with guilt by association with the red herring of anti-semitism, isn’t it?
Oscar,
I used to think the shit would hit the fan back in the 90s. Now I think we’ve got quite a ways to go before all the powers they’ve aggregated are actually in force - maybe forever.
Hell, the ‘take over everything’ executive orders have been around since Ike. If Nixon didn’t use em in ‘68, I think we’ll probably make it through Dick Cheney’s time.
You are right to be worried about our government abandoning the pretense of law as they have though.
Oscar, maybe if you asked Padilla or Cory Maye these questions, you’d find you’re already living in a police state. Another place to look would be Radley Balko’s blog and Will Grigg’s blog - they both have written a lot about individuals that have bumped into the police state. You can also google up Balko’s book “Overkill” which can be downloaded (pdf) for free at the CATO site.
You also have to realize that in America you will ultimately be imprisoned or killed for resisting the state.
I get the feeling that you think that if most of the population is not interned, there is no police state. But, the fact is that America has the highest incarceration rate in the world. And who is claiming the state runs efficiently now? With the debts this country is running, there is obviously not enough tax revenue.
ABC just reported a poll last week that a majority of people want more surveillance cameras. It’s gotten so bad that a lot of “libertarians” don’t even give a shit about civil rights anymore.
If freedom is do what you are told, pay your taxes, and shut the fuck up - then America is certainly free.
Uzbekistan is probably worse. But I doubt that Germany’s Jews were happy with Hitler just because Stalin may have been worse.

Hah! You ever see the show the 6 Million Dollar Man?
Oscar,
it’s not exactly easy to find where the bungling ends and the tyranny begins. most of it is just pathetic theater. but when you take the facts of the US Prison Industry and the militarization of domestic police agencies, compared to the rest of the world, and that essentially everything is being criminalized, regulated, or at the least legislated over, what can anyone that’s even half-way paying attention expected to think?
a majority would willingly kiss their rights goodbye?
the greatest number of those don’t even have a clue as to what their “Rights” are or what that entails, thanks to Wilson and the Deweyites.
