I wrote an article here at OpedNews.com.
Quick Summary: A vote for Hillary or Obama is a vote for more warfare and runaway defense spending. A vote for Paul is a vote to end America’s imperial ambitions and most of the lavish military spending that goes with it.

Great article Miguel. I would only add that Dr. Paul has made it very clear that he agrees with your interpretation of his powers. As a Congressman he voted no on everything that was unconstitutional – except for protecting Social Security and some abortion questions – but in this campaign he has made it clear that he is running to save the republic from the empire and the Bill of Rights from the dust-bin First, and way ahead of everything else on the list. He would try to suggest transitional programs to move away from national welfare but recognizes that as President he is merely the President and not some Unitary Executive dictator.
And all of his ideas of transitional programs are things like letting the young opt out, rather than something like the Bush-Cato fascism scheme of having the National Government “invest” the SS fund in the market.
He also always reiterates that your SS check is no good if the government is making the money in it worthless to fund their foreign wars.

Scott thanks for the compliment. I will be interested to see how many prominent antiwar Leftists will jump up and embrace the Paul candidacy. It would be nice to see people put their differences aside on other issues that can be dealt with at another time and focus on the one central issue that can only be confronted with a candidate that is conistent and can be trusted not to flip flop with the political winds.
Somebody sent me an email showing what kind of illusions some Democrats have about Hillary. Apparently this person’s wife’s coworker said, “I’m voting for Hillary because she’s anti-war and I want free health care.”
Good job. I copy and paste this type of material and send through the meetup.com message boards.
It is also a good source for material for letters to the editor in the newspaper.
Interesting observation regarding the Ron Paul meetups, there are dozens in NJ alone. When you search in meetup.com for Billary, Benito, McCainiac or Osama Obama, there are none except for the closest one which is in NYC. This indicates to me that there is absolutely no grassroots support for any of these so-called frontrunners. This is astounding especially since Guliani is supposed to have a following in NJ. There are currently nearly 70K people signed up for Ron Paul meetups and the amount is growing.
I was handing out Ron Paul propaganda earlier this week on a college campus and noticed the most striking thing. The young people, the students, were mostly polite and no small number were interested in what I had to say about RP. But the older folks, say those 45 and beyond, were the crustiest old bastards that I have ever encountered. If they looked at me at all it was with a look of utter contempt. I imagine that quite a few of them were professors or at least possessing of advanced degrees and therefore uninterested in learning anything that didn’t advance their careers. It was sick, man. But I think it’s this very demographic–the crusty ‘ol liberal academic–that will be the absolute hardest sell on RP. Maybe some of them will respond to the arguments in Miguel’s article, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Academia can destroy the open mind.
Mike,
I also see the same thing with the GOP’s in that same age group. Its as if they took “stupid pills” and are unable to think anymore. I find that most of them have absolutely no idea of what is really going on or what they are talking about, but they are quick to try and convince you that they do.
Its like they want to be like Bill O’Reilly, who is the biggest loudmouth talking head moron since Moe Howard of the Three Stooges.
One other funny thing happened on the campus. A middle-aged woman approached the table with her young son and professed allegiance to Ghoulini. Having never met such a human before, I was at first flabbergasted and had to simultaneously catch my breath and bite my tongue. I can’t remember what I said exactly, but I pointed out that the Ghoul is no fan of gun ownership and that RP is, and moreover, RP would bring an end to undeclared and unconstitutional wars. It was with that statement that she looked at me and said, “Oh, we declared war. The President said, ‘I declare war on Iraq!’” and she threw her hands up in the air like she had just got me. Stunned by this second dumb grenade, I stammered that under our system the President has no authority yada yada. Whatever I said, she ended up taking a bunch of literature and dvds from the table and appeared to have a genuine interest in RP. So maybe all hope is not lost after all.
Phil,
Well, I guess I’m happy to hear that dim wits are not confined to academia after all. thanks, m
Hey, is anyone else here enjoying Cockburn and St. Clair’s three-part Hillary series? For an old skool Clinton hater like me it just doesn’t get any better. Sample: “Also in ‘the Box Room’ under lock and key were details of Bill’s sexual capers and Hillary’s dealings at Rose Law.” Tee-hee.. giggles! I say bring back the good old days of Whitewater, Susan Mcdougal, Web Hubble, Rose law firm billing records, Trooper-gate, Cattle Futures, Juanita Broderick, and CIA cocaine flights out of the Mena airport!!!
