Administration Urges Congress to Keep Non-Violent Drug Offenders in Prison

Racist sentencing guidelines for crack possession were finally being undone by the U.S. Sentencing Commission.

The vile and treacherous Bush administration is now moving to have their Congress thwart the decision in order to keep those federal prisons full - of poor black folks.

“I’m really kind of shocked that Attorney General Mukasey would seemingly not have faith in the American judicial system to do all it can to ensure that violent offenders are not released early and to address a fundamental injustice in the criminal justice process,” said U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton, who presides in the District. “His position presupposes that judges will be irresponsible in exercising their discretion.”

Hmmmm, Reggie Walton is a Bush appointee. Even HE is against the policy.

In all fairness though, this outrageous law was originally pushed by Tip O’ Neill, becuase he was outraged the Boston Celtics lost their number one draft pick Len Bias to crack cocaine.
