Here, Eric Garris and I lay out our argument for Ron Paul to ditch the GOP and his campaign’s conservative triangulation strategy, seek the Libertarian nomination, and keep on running.

Wouldn’t that be great? And then even if he loses he can go back the House anyway! Awesome.

Would love to see this happen, realistically he’s not going to get the republican nomination now is he ? so he should start to look at a 3rd party run and keep the Ron Paul revolution band wagon rolling, i think he could make a real impact, it would probably rejuvenate the support after super Tuesday, which wasn’t all bad but some supporters seem to have been a bit deflated by it.

A Message of Hope

Writes Stephen Dolenc: “I am a sophomore at Virginia Tech. I had a message of hope I wanted to share with your readers in this time of disappointment brought on by the primary and caucus results.
“I am convinced that we will compare this Ron Paul movement to the American Revolution a century (or two) from now. Each major event in the original Revolution will have a corollary to today’s Revolution. This struggle we are engaging in seems quixotic and we will experience many setbacks, disappointments, and failures, but our success is as definite as the success of our founders. We must have courage and hope. We are fighting for things far greater than ourselves; we can’t forget that. Our perseverance must continue far beyond this election; it is our obligation as true freedom-loving patriots to combat the terribly unconstitutional policies that have led this country down a path of corruption and destruction. Saving the Republic will take all of us — I know we can do it because we will do it.”

Meh, you guys are obviously more optimistic than I am.
When asked about a third-party run, by usually condescending news media, Ron’s pretty consistently said he wasn’t going to because he wouldn’t be able to get into the debates or on the ballots. Running on the LP party ticket would probably be a waste of time anyway, they still can’t get people elected dog catcher muchless to any national office worth noting. The last election in Pennsylvannia (and I was registered independent at the time, so it wasn’t one our our closed primaries) there was no one from the LP on the ballot for anything.
If Ron runs as a LP candidate or independent or whatever else, he’ll just be further ignored by the media beyond the current extent of the blackout. Whatever coverage he does get will be “look at the crazy old congressman from Texas, who was never a frontrunner like Rudy Guiliani, who keeps running anyway! He wants to bring back the gold standard!”
While I think Paul would have taken, or at least come in second, in a bunch of states if our fascist media covered his campaign at all, the elections are rigged. If Ron does win an outright majority it’ll be nullified by all the other candidates attacking the validity of signatures on petitions to get Ron or his delegates off the ballot (if you haven’t personally looked into how primaries work this election season at the local level in the very precinct you live, you’d be astonished by how slimy and common this is) or by unlawfully disqualifying voters (see Louisiana) or by just rigging the piece of shit Diebold machines.
If voting could make a difference it would be illegal. (Apologies to whoever I stole that from.) Americans are stupid, mass-murder-loving, welfare-dependent cows. Why have peace and prosperity when you could get government subsidises while you cheer on the local football team and support killing some brown people in a country you can’t find on a map?
I’ll vote for Ron in the PA primary that I changed my registration to Vile Warmongering Part–Republican Party, so I could vote in, but I think I’m done with electoral politics after that. It’s a lot more fun to sit back and watch Rome burn than to run around throwing baking soda at people like it makes some sort of difference.

This is a long term battle. Did you think we were going to change things because Ron Paul did all the work for us and it was easy to ride his coat tails? Maybe Washington should have quit at Valley Forge?
They want you to quit so go ahead and quit.

Liberty-minded folks have been fighting for more than twice as long as anyone reading this has been alive and not really gotten anywhere. Hell, our current government is full of people who publically break the despotic laws they themselves created (not to mention our toilet paper Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc) and face no consequences. There isn’t even any public outcry because apparently American Idol auditions are more important or something.
John “100 years in Iraq” McCain won the antiwar vote. How much more of an uphill “battle” could we have than that? Keep fighting the good fight while being loaded onto box cars headed for the camps?

The people spoke on Tuesday: they want 100 more years of war and free handouts from the state.
Public education has created creatures dependent of the state’s welfare who are incapable of questioning authority and who are only interested in football, beer, Britney’s cellulite and Hooters,
The day we have generalized unemployment, shortages of food and a draft, we will blame the Mexicans for taking away our jobs, the Arabs because they hate our freedom and are not willing to give us their black goo and the Chinese because they are evil and will increase the prices of the junk we buy at Wal-Mart.
What revolution??

Yeah, I’m kind of in agreement with mr. evilpaul here. In electoral terms, a Libertarian run at president–assuming he could even mount one at this point–would be another Perot-Nader-type flop: Paul could take a chunk of votes away from one or both of the monkeys he’s opposing, cause him or her (it?) to lose, and then go down in history as one more reviled yet forgotten “spoiler”. What could he get at best? 8% of the vote? And then what, run again in 2013? I don’t think so.
On the other hand, the future is uncertain. The shit could really hit the fan here, sooner rather than later, and there could be a major opening for libertarian philosophy. Staying in the thick of things electorally may be the best way to seize the moment. And then again, I keep thinking this line I read recently, maybe in a Gary North column: never bet on the extreme outcome. The most likely course of events if for our f’ed up political system to creak along for years and years. . . . with libertarians blogging to each other when they should instead be working.

At this point I would just be happy with breaking up the Republican party through conservatives hatred of McCain. Paul should stay in the primaries just to rain on the parade of McCain’s primary victory. I’d settle making McCain’s life miserable at this point.

Ron Paul would destroy McCain in a debate, remember when Ron Paul asked McCain that question in the last debate ?

I think the reason RP has had such a hard time getting the average Republican voter to vote for him is that most of them are too stupid and/or insecure to comprehend someone who doesn’t rely on aggression, arrogance, and assholieness to tell them what they need.
They need someone who will talk down to them and make them feel like a baby bird getting their morning regurgitation from mama bird.
Wouldn’t that be great? And then even if he loses he can go back the House anyway! Awesome.
