  2. This interview is interesting with regard to those goofy questions that those MTV kids were so concerned about for some reason.

If only Ron Paul had answered, “So you want the unconstitutional standing army of the U.S. government which has caused the top 3 current humanitarian crises in Asia and Africa to intervene in the 4th biggest humanitarian crisis?”

  3. HL Mencken quotes:

“The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth.”

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

    The Honorable Michael Chertoff
    Secretary
    Department of Homeland Security
    Washington, D.C.

    Dear Mr. Secretary:

Although governors and your department currently are focused on assisting the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, we want to reemphasize our commitment to working with you to implement the REAL ID statute. As you could tell from our discussions in Iowa, governors are very concerned about the feasibility of this law. We hope our concerns can be addressed by having your agency work closely with the National Governors Association to develop workable regulations.

Governors share Congress’ concern for increasing the security and integrity of driver’s licenses and state identifications cards. Following September 11, 2001, our states began to improve the integrity of these documents by adding security technologies such as holograms, watermarks, photos, signatures and fingerprints in bar codes and magnetic strips. We also have addressed the types of acceptable identification documents (so called breeder documents) that must be presented to obtain a driver’s license, including foreign identification documents.

Unfortunately, REAL ID ignores state-based solutions in favor of federally imposed and unfunded mandates. It also fails to address several baseline questions that states need answered to evaluate and implement the act’s requirements. For example, REAL ID requires states to establish effective procedures to confirm and verify the renewal of more than 227 million existing driver’s licenses. What constitutes an effective procedure? Will all existing driver’s licenses and ID card holders have to go through the same renewal procedure? Will renewal by Internet or mail be allowed? Specific answers to these questions are necessary to determine the feasibility and cost of implementing the statute by Congress’ three year deadline.

Other major concerns include the scope of the requirements for providing physical security for card production, obtaining security clearances for individuals who work with and distribute driver’s licenses and ID cards and developing and deploying technology to meet the act’s mandates. Needless to say, developing regulations to implement REAL ID will be a monumental task. For states to begin moving toward the compliance deadline, an expedited and transparent regulation process is necessary.

Governors look forward to working with you to develop reasonable and effective standards and procedures that can truly create a more secure America.

    Sincerely,

    Governor Mike Huckabee

    Governor Janet Napolitano

  11. Per Daily Paul, RP will not run as third party candidate……. He is trying to maintain his house seat, and under the LBJ rule he can run for BOTH president and congressman simultaneously, he cannot run as a Republican for his House Seat and an Independent (or Libertarian, or Constitution Party Line) for the Presidency. ….

This was the one question I had regarding the LBJ law….. Actually, I’m not sure if its illegal or would just piss off the Texas Republicans…………… See below………

  12. Actually….. I read the headline….. and then the article……….. and that headline might be misleading….. I read it as saying I need to concentrate my efforts right now on the Congressional Republican Primary….. while continuing in the GOP presidential race…. to even mention 3rd Party NOW………would piss off my Republican House seat primary voters…… It might be a different story AFTER the Republican Primary….especially since I have no Democratic opponent…..

    3 matters:

    1) RP will NOT be allowed to speak in Prime Time during the Rep Convention without endorsing McCain…which he will not do…. Fuggetddaboutit……

    2) The Party Platform doesn’t mean a fucking diddly shit….. Who reads them anyway? Do you think an elected official – will be bound by a PARTY PLATFORM….. if he isn’t bound by an oath to uphold the Constitution?

    3) Can RP beat McCain in Texas????? If so, he might get a little press out of that?

  13. You boys ready for marshal law yet?

A public-private partnership program on infrastructure preparedness and protection run by the Federal Bureau of Investigation allegedly has briefed its corporate members on the possibility of martial law and the use of lethal force, according to an exclusive report in the magazine The Progressive.

“One business owner in the United States tells me that InfraGard members are being advised on how to prepare for a martial law situation—and what their role might be,” writes Matthew Rothschild in the Feb. 7 report, quoting an anonymous whistleblower on the program. “‘Then they said when—not if—martial law is declared, it was our responsibility to protect our portion of the infrastructure, and if we had to use deadly force to protect it, we couldn’t be prosecuted,’ he says.”

I think that is very unlikely. Most people want to vote for the person who they think will win. This is probably true in every state.
Also, how much is Texas like the rest of the South? I know it is a bit different, but Ron Paul has overall done the worst in the South. The South is full of people who love their welfare and love killing people. (In the name of Jesus of course, or so they like to think.)

Is that whole mixed party senario true for every state? Would he be allowed to run third party in every state other than Texas but not run as third party in Texas? If this is so, there could be another name on the ballot to represent his electors in Texas. It could be Carol Paul or Rand Paul.

  17. I don’t know how to shoot, nor do I own a weapon. Can someone give me a quick primer on which firearms are good for what, and the level of expertise required to handle each?

Am thinking about your basic collapse of society scenario (i.e., TSHTF), or a scenario where there is some kind of guerrilla war where–if my back were against the wall–I’d be forced to choose a side. You know, the teevee show Jericho or something like that.

Granted, I’m a family man and I’m probably more interested in fleeing the country for greener pastures in the unlikely though plausible event of TSHTF.

  20. UPDATE UPDATE (from Wikipedia)

    Ron Paul Presidential Campaign
On January 22, 2008, Luskin endorsed Ron Paul for president.

On January 24, 2008, Luskin was appointed Economic Advisor to the Ron Paul 2008 Presidential Campaign. In reference to Paul’s economic revitalization plan, Luskin said “Ron Paul’s economic plan is the real thing – a plan. It’s not just a band-aid designed to ‘stimulate’ the economy in an election year. It’s a fundamental agenda for real and lasting change, making the US economy more vibrant and competitive, and removing barriers to advancement for all Americans.” [18] On February 7, 2008, Luskin stepped down from Paul’s campaign and joined McCain after hearing about McCain’s plan for “more sunshine.”[19].

He dumped RP for McCain after hearing about McCain’s plan for MORE SUNSHINE????? WTF

Wasn’t that McCain’s rambling response to RP’s Q on the President’s Working Group of Financial Markets……..

I checked this guy’s blog……… He gives NO REASON OR MENTION FOR THE SWITCH………..at least no yet…..

  21. Bob: Skateboarding is possible anywhere you go. Surfing is more specific. For example, I live in Austin, not California, so I’ve never surfed before, much less a million times which seems like the optimal number.

SteveC: Yeah, that’s pretty busted. Did he write anything about it at NRO?

    Posted by Scott | February 8, 2008, 11:04 pm
  22. John,
That letter from RP regarding his future plans sounds to me like he’s pulling back quite a bit.

But with so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter. . . . I also have another priority. I have constituents in my home district that I must serve. I cannot and will not let them down. And I have another battle I must face here as well.

    Whaddya think?

    Oscar,
Don’t bother learning how to shoot a gun unless it’s a small hand gun for fighting off small-time thieves and the like. In a firefight with the Federales you’ll most likely get killed or seriously wounded because they will always have more firepower and more skill than you. And we know that the will use it. Instead save money (or better, precious metals) so that you can steal you and yours out of harm’s way if need be.

    Scott,
If you start surfing you’ll have to start talking like that idiot in the video, and then Oscar will have to use his gun on you.

  23. And Scott, if Oscar doesn’t get you in the surf, then this will.

  25. Hey, ya hear ’bout this? It was in Lew’s blog. Here’s the story

UN board says marijuana machines illegal

VIENNA, Austria – Marijuana vending machines in Los Angeles violate international treaties and should be shut down, the U.N.-affiliated drug control board said Friday.

“The International Narcotics Control Board is deeply concerned about reports that computerized vending machines to dispense cannabis (marijuana) have been put into operation in Los Angeles,” Philip O. Emafo, president of the board, said in a statement.

At least three Los Angeles medical marijuana dispensaries have installed vending machines to distribute the drug to people who carry cards authorizing marijuana use. The drug is said to alleviate chronic pain, loss of appetite and other ailments.
