Ever notice how some people’s faces just seem to perfectly groove with their speech patterns (and malapropisms) and character?
GWB’s face is a perfect case study in this odd phenomenon.
Oh well, regardless, we won’t be seeing too much of Bush’s face too much longer with him out of office in LESS THAN A YEAR!! WOO WOO! BREAK OUT THE CHAMPAGNE boys and girls, PARTY TIME is NIGH!!
Phil,
Am I mistaken or did you once express an opinion about the economics advice and prognostication of Gary North? Seems I remember you saying something recently about his work. I ask because I’m thinking about subscribing to his newsletter. Sorry if I’m confusing your words for someone else’s. And Scott, sorry for hijacking this thread.
I first became interested in North’s writings as he wrote the introduction to Call It Conspiracy, authored by Larry Abraham. The book was a 1980’s update to the late Gary Allen’s “None Dare Call It Conspiracy”. These books had a tremendous influence on me and how I looked at the world. I was never the same after reading them and these guys should be recognized as pioneers in their field.
North is an interesting guy but I would not bet my lunch on him as he has some strange religious ideas (not like Hagee though, just kinda odd). But he also realizes that the idea of Dispensationalism is ridiculous and non-biblical.
I used to subscribe to Abraham’s newletter, Insider Alert, and North wrote regularly in it. To answer your question, give it a try but I wouldn’t take a long term subscription. North likes to make predictions and pontificate, and he is wrong as much as he is right. But overall, I think he is a good guy who means well.
Gary North is known as “Scary Gary” because of his dire prognostications regarding the Y2K non-event. Basically he was asking one to prepare for the collapse of civilization. Earlier, he also predicted that AIDS would sweep across America and wipe out a large fraction of our population, among other things.
My guess is that Dr. Gary would have a pretty good idea of who wrote those Ron Paul newsletters, back in the day, as he is much more of a paleoconservative than a libertarian or paleo-lib, and seemed to run in those circles.
Gary North says some smart things, but he’s not the kind of guy who’s always right, and one must be wary of that.

That’s true about most of these financial adviser types, isn’t it? I think they have to go out on a limb in order to get people’s attention, but that no way to advise poor people like me. But I know what you mean.

OK, Gary’s not a computer scientist or an epidemiologist. Just wish he knew what the bounds of his knowledge were and stay inside of them. I’m just trying to survive this downturn like everybody else.

I don’t see much reason to celebrate, as we are very likely going to get someone who is worse, possibly much worse.

How about a John McCain one which says “not my friend”
“Whatta brain! Belongs right up there on the meat counter”
