Scott, your post title reminds me of that french sounding song from the South Park movie for some reason.
Anyway, I went with my Dad to the local Ron Paul Meetup group (Delaware County, PA) meeting again tonight. Though it’s obviously highly unlikely that Ron will be the second POTUS from PA, there’s still a lot of people who are willing to go out and canvas with door hanger thingies. I’m continuing to do it because I’d like to get the message out.
Stephan Molyneaux (who’s name I think I just butchered) had a “post-mortem” on the RP Revolution a little while back, and one of his points was that the message of liberty can now be spread cheap+fast via the Internet, but Americans still aren’t accepting it. I disagree with that, although I’m pessimistic, I think that the vast majority of Americans still don’t get most of their news from the Internet and TONS of people who are planning to vote haven’t even heard of Ron Paul. I’m reminded of the story I heard here about someone telling their friend who was going to vote for somebody for a dumb reason to vote for Dr. Paul instead and saying, “Oh, ok I’ll go vote for Ron Paul.”
I’m probably rambling at this point, but basically I agree with the Youtube video of Dr. Paul here: keep trying to get the message out and maybe things will get better. Public outrage does stop other awful shit the government tries to pull, afterall. And as libertarians we know that the state’s existence depends on the tacit consent (or according to Arthur Silber, support) of the governed.
I have to be up in 6 hours, so I’m going to bed now.

Yes, he’ll still campaign, but he won’t with any expectation of winning.
I was cynical but hopeful in all of this. Anyone who spent his time and money on this campaign with Paul’s winning being the only positive outcome made a mistake. I spent my time and money knowing there could be a lot of possible outcomes but believing that there would be a lot of good done whatever happened.
evilpaul, I think that mountain lion might put Romney into the nomination.

With no illusions of winning, I just spent 12 hours locked in a room with a bunch of socially conservative seniles to get a few RP delegates to the state convention (and 28 bucks on a mandatory turkey sandwich). It was a long, drawn out war of attrition but no one from the small RP camp was going home early. If nothing else, at least we can say we did what we could. Personally, I feel I owed it to the guy for putting himself and his ideas out there. No Regrets.

Well, who’s putting out all the mixed messages? Not Stress.
Within the space of a few hours the LRC blog had it confirmed that he’d quit and then accused the Post of lying for saying so. They’re as confused as anyone. That video the other day sure seemed like he was dropping out to me. What’s he going to do, win?
I hope Bob Barr runs and Ron drops out and endorses him next week. The Revolution needs a kick in the ass. At this point the campaign is done. It needs a new direction and soon.

Here is my take, for what it is worth……
1) Ron Paul recognizes the fact that he will not win, nor will there be any brokered convention, and if McCain dropped dead tomorrow RP with his 40 - 50 delegates he would not be in a position to become the nominee…They would resurrect Romney/Huckabee or something.
2) There is still about $6 million left from the campaign…..and RP has no plans to endorse or cut a deal w/ McCain/the GOP establishment.
3) The “campaign” needs to DIVERSIFY - by getting paleocons/libertarian and other RP supporters to run for office and/or push specific issues.
4) RP wants his supporters to go to the remaining caucuses/primary elections and vote for him in those states as a way of sending a message….He has no belief that he will win….so he doesn’t want supporters operating on the belief that (electoral) victory is plausible, nor should victory be measured that way.
Scott: There is about $6 million left in the til….What could he do? … Set up a Constitutionalist PAC and promote the dozen or so congressman who have some measure of fealty to the Constitution (Walter Jones?)
The LP and CP are both in absolute chaos!
I’d vote for Bob Barr on the LP line.
Wayne Root is a fucking embarassment…..George Phillies has the personality of an enema….Kubby seems like a nice guy, but he’s not viable - even by LP standards…..
The CP is supposedly flirting with that self - promoting demagogue - Alan Keyes…. The only one from their camp I like is Chuck Baldwin - and he’s a little too socially conservative for me (even though I’m a strong Pro - Lifer)…. I know he supported RP and I’d return the favor by pulling the lever for him unless Barr is the Libertarian nominee…..
My 2C….
