  1. Scott,
As a Pennsylvannian, who lives in the ‘T’ between Philly and Pittsburgh I can assure you that what Obama said is pretty much true. But, like you’re saying I don’t think it matters and I don’t care.

  2. You could say that Brzenski invented Al Qaeda, so in a round about way you could say that Obama’s got some connections to Al Qaeda.

  3. Scott, I cannot seem to get the live-feed from the new website to work. Tried it several times last week and did so moments ago after you intro and the only way I am able to listen to your show is by linking through the old website. Windows Media opens up when linking from either but I never get audio from the new page. Not sure if others are experiencing difficulties or just the web filter at work…

  6. Try doing an “Open…” or “Open from URL…” with this:

    And see if that connects.

  7. Poor lad. Sounds like he’s making the best of things though, good luck to him.

  8. Scott are you going to talk about Dick Cheny’s latest propaganda about al qaida “taking over” parts of Iraq in the event of a US withdrawal.

  9. could you find and copy/paste the giraldi, odom quotes here for me?

    Posted by Scott | April 14, 2008, 12:30 pm
  10. the cheney one too?

    Posted by Scott | April 14, 2008, 12:31 pm
  11. heres cheneys quote-

HANNITY: If we pull out too early, what do you believe the consequences would be? […]

CHENEY: For us to walk away from Iraq I think would have at least that bad an effect, probably worse, because if al Qaeda were to take over big parts of Iraq, among other things, they would acquire control of a significant oil resource. Iraq has almost 100 billion barrel reserves, producing 2.5-3 million barrels of oil a day. If you take a terrorist organization like al Qaeda and give it that kind of revenue, there’s no telling the amount of trouble they could get into.

    Posted by Anders | April 14, 2008, 12:33 pm
  12. Giraldi-

When asked about the administration’s assertions that al Qaeda will take over Iraq’s al Anbar province if the U.S. military leaves, [former CIA counter-terrorism officer] Giraldi said,

“No. I think the reality is that if the United States leaves it will be a very bad thing for al Qaeda because the Sunnis don’t particularly want them around and would get rid of them.”

He then said that the only reason al Qaeda is tolerated by Iraqi Sunnis is to help fight the American occupation and that,

“There have already been reports that the Sunnis are already kind of tired of them because when they stage a major provocation or attack, it’s the local Sunni population that has to take the grief when the U.S. Army descends. … It’s a marriage of convenience with al Qaeda insofar as it’s a marriage at all. So I think it would be fallacious to assume – In fact, let me [say it] stronger than that: I think it would be ridiculous to assume that al Qaeda could establish some kind of serious presence in Iraq similar to what it did in Afghanistan because the dynamic is completely different.”

    Posted by Anders | April 14, 2008, 12:33 pm
  13. odom -

Odom also made hash of claims that Al Qaeda will have a staging area in Iraq for further attacks against the United States if we withdraw our entire military presence.

“The Sunnis will soon destroy Al Qaeda if we leave Iraq,” Odom said. “The Kurds do not allow them in their region, and the Shiites, like the Iranians, detest Al Qaeda. To understand why, one need only take note of the Al Qaeda public diplomacy campaign over the past year or so on Internet blogs. They implore the United States to bomb and invade Iran and destroy this apostate Shiite regime.

“As an aside, it gives me pause to learn that our vice president and some members of Congress are aligned with Al Qaeda on spreading the war to Iran.”

  14. … and since bin Laden’s gone missing, the coalition has to pick up the slack to keep the resurgent Taliban going.

  17. No problem, i will try and find the actual audio of the cheney interview or clip.

    Posted by Anders | April 14, 2008, 1:02 pm
  18. Heres what he said about Iran in the same interview -

Q And I believe it would create a safe haven for al Qaeda and Iran inside of Iraq. What did you make of Senator Barack Obama’s comments that he would talk to Ahmadinejad, a Holocaust denier who’s repeatedly threatened to blow up and remove Israel from the state — from the map, the world map, and obviously is pursuing some nuclear capability?

THE VICE PRESIDENT: Well, he is, and I think the position we’ve taken with respect to that is that we would be prepared to talk when they stopped enriching uranium. Of course, they’ve never met that condition, so we haven’t had talks at that level.

But Ahmadinejad is I think a very dangerous man. On the one hand, he has repeatedly stated that he wants to destroy Israel. He also has — is a man who believes in the return of the 12th Imam; and that the highest honor that can befall a man is that he should die a martyr in facilitating the return of the 12th Imam.

It’s a radical, radical point of view. Bernard Lewis once said, mutual assured destruction in the Soviet-U.S. relationship in the Cold War meant deterrence, but mutual assured destruction with Ahmadinejad is an incentive. You have to be concerned about that.

  33. that Belhaven is the best damn beer I’ve ever had. can’t find any distributors that will import it around here anymore.
only place I know of that had it, about ten years ago, was The English Pub in Naples, FL. when I was down there on a trip for work.
before that, was probably fifteen years earlier, originally found it at a party store that carried close to three hundred brands of
imported beer, but their dist. dropped it eventually. had a painted label back then. still have one of the bottles somewhere.

    Posted by mudshark | April 14, 2008, 8:21 pm
  34. …Beer? What Beer? Where?? Somebody say somethin’ about beer?

Posted by Mace Price | April 14, 2008, 9:04 pm
  35. yeah, Mace. ever try Belhaven?
I was just looking at their distributors and they’re all over the place now, even in Vegas. none here tho, but there are a couple within an hour of here so maybe I’ll be able to track some down again finally. I did had some Smithwick’s Ale a few years ago when I went to Cinci’ for a celtic festival. good red ale, especially draught.

  39. To be somewhat on topic.

“Can you tell me the difference between Hizbollah and Al-Qaeda?” “Uhh. No”

Diane Benson comes across as an honest and well-meaning person, but I would ask her to consider that her severe lack of knowledge about world politics is not unique to her, but is epidemic in the USA. Diane, please take the hint from Ron Paul and become an advocate of NON-INTERVENTIONISM.

You don’t have the knowledge of local situations and events in other countries that you would need in order to run things over there, or pick the right leader to assassinate, or be able to project the results of subsidizing one group with US taxpayer money. This is not a personal attack, but it reflects the reality of central planning, and of empire.

The members of the US Congress and the US-American people are not well informed enough to “run the world”.;.. Not just fairly or justly or for everyone’s benefit… but AT ALL.

I’m aware that you need to present yourself as someone who ‘has the answers’ to get elected. But please realize, if you do get elected, that the dream of spreading goodness to the world with US taxpayer money is a flawed one. Please google ‘non-interventionism’.

    Thanks for the interview.
