After re-listening to Scott’s interview with Andrew Cockburn i thought i would make a little youtube clip of the part where they discuss Bush not knowing what a neo-con was until he asked his Dad in august of 06.

2006 ?!?!?!?!?! This means George W. is as clueless as most of the American public when it comes to the political factions of the US/Israeli Gov’t/Middle East.
I’m guessing George W. didn’t ask too many follow-up questions since Cockburn shows how W is less curious than those elementary school prisoners.
So Neoconservatism = Israel according to W’s dad (former CIA director, oil man, and member-of-the-establishment).
I don’t doubt that, anymore. What I am don’t really understand is the “why” of their hardcore support for Israeli gov’t interests. Is it ideology or money? If it were money, wouldn’t they be working for the Saudis or China ???? It seems more like ideology first, greed second, everything else is collateral damage. Are there any Antiwar.com article links that talk about the primary reason for their fanatical support of the Israeli gov’t?
Israel is the master inside politics- American Zionists/Neocons know the American Cultural Landscape. They know how institutions work, and have control of first tier of strategic ones. Within the neocon community itself, you have knee jerk tribal cultural loyalty. Thats understandable. What seems mysterious to you is the loyalty of non Jewish Neocons. They can bribe who they need to, make common cause with people who can help them, politically and economically hurt their enemies, blackmail some, control the PR environment and levers of power in both parties, control the envelope of polite political discourse, control the menu of alternative/acceptable foreign policy postures, and buy many supporters who respect international capitalism as the new marxism – the ism of the 21st century– They are good- very very good at it. Most of it is not visible to be public, Every once in a while, like the pardon of Marc Rich, something surfaces to make people say – “whats that all about?” then nobody in the press has the balls to run with it, and the whole thing dies out. What documents did Sandy Burger steal? We don’t know and can’t find out.
The heart of it is that the US press, media, and political institutions are not allowed to harbor any anti Israeli counterweight without being crucified by the media. Who knows what combination of levers and strings control Cheney. National greatness republicans are mostly shallow people who can be persuaded because the “magnificent IDF” is our ally and in the media at least, we stand together for democracy against islamofacism.– crap goes on and on but the point is, every night three hours of sean hannity will glass the eyes over for the person who believes in US excpetionalism. Cheney keeps a picture of Osiraq in his office.

By all measure, American Security would be enhanced by a return to pre 1991 hands off troops out of the middle east, but the poetry of the daring little Israel, standing
for truth, justice, and democracy, and with neat American arms too , allied with US against the hated Arabs and Iranians.— well its just too much for an AEI type to resist. Also there may be other strings and levers that the Israeli call pull on people that we never see.
Bottom line. the Neocon pro Israeli lobby has made it impossible for serious mainstream press or politicians to pull away from support from the militant settler movement. Nobody in the national media will or can do it. China and the Arab oil money are children in this game.
So the process for control and influence is more systematic, covert, and sophisticated than I could ever imagine. Their effectiveness is impressive and depressing at the same time. Antiwar.com and LRC blog postings make even more sense now.
Thanks, Peter! This answered my question (and a few others).
“Are there any Antiwar.com article links that talk about the primary reason for their fanatical support of the Israeli gov’t?”
Read Jim Lobe. WWII plays a major role in how they see the world obviously. Too bad they learned all the wrong lessons.
“George Bush Asked His Dad “What’s a Neo-con” In 2006″
I don’t believe that for a second. I find very little of what Andrew Cockburn has to say believable lately.
Read between the lines of what his mesage is:
“I can’t believe we’ve turned Iraq over to Al Queda! The Iranians clearly have a nefarious hand in this.”
The guy is suspicious, to say the least. It stinks.
Are you kidding me? You’re suspicious of the same Andrew Cockburn who wrote this?: http://www.counterpunch.org/andrew05022008.html
Have you read Rumsfeld?
Does anyone think that the Iraq war has been bad for Osama or the Ayatollahs?
