If you get a chance, ask him why Mike Mullen brought up the USS Liberty in his surprise visit to Israel

U.S. and Israeli militaries discuss attack on Liberty
Leading defense officials from the United States and Israel, meeting in Israel this week, raised the controversial attack on the U.S. ship USS Liberty, by Israel, in June 1967. The attack has caused considerable controversy over the years despite both governments being reticent to publicly discuss the affair. It is rare that defense officials from either side discuss the attack which killed 34 U.S. service personnel, and wounded 171 others. In talks this week however between the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Admiral Michael Mullen, and Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, together with other senior Israeli and American military officials, the subject was well and truly on the table. According to a Haaretz newspaper report on Friday, quoting a source from the Israeli delegation, the Liberty attack was raised in talks regarding Iran, and U.S. operations in the Middle East.

For all his bluster, Hedges is really just a typical educated liberal: right about civil iberties and war, but wrong about everything else.

He’s more right about civil iberties and war than most.

But yeah, he’s terrible on the regulatory/welfare state.

“He’s terrible on on the regulatory/welfare state.” Darn Tootin’! I always say “Why do you trust the same people who steal our money to build bombs and kill people who are no threat to us to take care of us with their FDAs, EPAs and Federal Reserve systems?”

If liberals could get over their internal contradictions—war bad; welfare and regs good, etc—the US really could get back on its feet and we could be a nation of liberty.

And maybe even pigs will fly one day, right?

And I thought I was the only human on earth that owns that Mike Watt album. Good choice, Scott.

I like that track before Giraldi.  Nice way to mix-up the style.  Thanks MikeL for pointing out the artist.

Actually, pupnik, the singer in that particular song that Scott played is Frank Blank of Pixies fame. the song is from one of those all-star, lets-do-some-covers, albums from the ninties. This particular one was was put together by Mike Watt of The Minutemen and fIREHOSE. The album was called “Ball-Hog or Tugboat.” Idiot title if you ask me but it had some pretty good tunes on it.

    Hi Scott,
Long time since I posted, but I listen to your podcasts religiously.  Brilliant shows as always.
During your interview with Philip Giraldi, you mentioned something about tapes being released by the CIA which proved the Israeli pilots had identified the USS LIberty as an American ship.  Could you please provide me a link to that source?
    Cheers
    Andre
