I was struck by this AP article.

And the thing that struck me was to whom they sent the message, Norway…. one of the least powerful members of NATO and the one Russia has closest relation with.
 
The Russian strategy seems to be ignore and mock the powerfull members of NATO
Threaten their ex satellites who joined NATO
And tell their friends in NATO that “we can no longer be your friend because of the dumb guys your hanging with”

      I don’t think Lew is a racist, although those letters pander to racists. But Lew has denied writing them and McElroy has basically stated that he did write them. McElroy used to be a regular contributor to LRC and isn’t anymore. Her last article at LRC was posted just shy of 2 years ago. Her last blog post there was over a year ago. McElroy might have an ax to grind here or may simply be wrong. Or she may be right. It would be nice to know which.

      I think if Scott brought up those newletters (whether Lew wrote them or not , edited them, or not) it would be the last time he was a guest on Scott’s Show.Frankly, I don’t know…. I do not believe RP had a hand in writing them….forgetting substance - the CAUSTIC STYLE does not ring true to RP….but considering the quantity and length of time they ran RP may have turned a deliberate blind eye and the subscriber list may well have served a role in getting RP a donor list for his local Congressional races…Note:  He was getting no help from the establishment….and a lot of his contributions came from outside his district.  Re:  THE STYLE……………It does have a very similar style to the ROTHBARD - ROCKWELL REPORT….  Try to pick up a copy on E - Bay and you’ll see that the rhetorical tone is very similar….Check it out and draw your own conclusions….

      I hate to take a dismissive “it’s old news” sort of tone and attitude, but quite frankly, it is.

      Ozzy is correct that Wendy McElroy said it was Lew in so many words. “Some know the author as just an aide, but those of us in the know knew him as more than that” is paraphrasing what she said. I don’t have the link handy, but I’m sure anyone who’s really interested can Google it. It was on her personal site I’m pretty sure.

      That said, Justin Raimondo blogged about it over at Takimag.com a while back and went and actually showed what was written rather than taking single words and phrases out of context like they did over at the New Republic (right publication?), and the stuff written in them was the standard right-wing narrative at the time they were written and while politicially incorrect mostly wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be.

      The people who keep resurrecting the newsletter controversy in the media seem motivated by a desire to increase the size and power of the state by smearing their opponents like Ron Paul and Lew Rockwell. Stopping the war, police state, war on drugs, and surveillance state, which both Lew and RP are both working to do, is much more important than whether one of them wrote somethihng slimy twenty years ago. I’m not an Objectivist, so mock trials and movement “purges” aren’t something I’m really interested in. Better to put our energies into something that will increase liberty and peace rather than worry about old controversies.

      Keeping Johnak McBombya from killing us all in nuclear war with Russia or murdering a million Persians or stepping up the slaughter of Pashtuns in Afghanistan are all slightly more pressing issues in my opinion. Hopefully, people will agree with me on that.

      The people who attack Ron Paul really are the worst.  Every one of them attacks him for advocating the elimination of government programs or “oversight” (protection of politically connected companies), particularly their pet program or legislation.  Ornicus is one of the worst of the worst of these people.  His main argument was that Ron Paul small government message and anti-Fed message was one that anti-Semites love (”Jew Bankers” and all, I guess JP Morgan and the Rockefellers are Jews according to them) so he must be “speaking” to them on a deeper level in code that they understand as cloaked white supremacist lingo.
