  1. That video is about my friend Joe.  Guy knows nothing about history or economics or international current events yet for the past year he has obsessively watched the news for Obama shit.

    • There was a little scary hero-worship among Ron Paul supporters as well. Our RP meetup continues online discussions to this day and it’s clear many of these faithful have learned nothing beyond what RP has said on that particular day. They can hardly think for themselves. Granted, it’s not quite a bad as Obama worship because at least RP has some principles worth emulating, but still, it ain’t the way to liberty.

      • I couldn’t agree more.  I think RP is clearly the elected official with whom I most often agree, but I have substantial disagreements with him on things (first and foremost the legitimacy of any type of state.)  I think his campaign was, perhaps, the best thing to happen to the liberty movement in a good long while.  What struck me as so odd was that the very point of Ron’s campaign was that individuals didn’t need this messiah figure (kind of like that scene in “Life of Brian”) and yet too many of his supporters didn’t seem to get this.

        • Oh, man, RP was the best thing that’s ever happened to me politically. I’ve learned so much in the last two years that I can barely keep it all in my tiny brain. I suspect that he also questions the legitimacy of the state, but that he would prefer to take the slow (and possibly futile) route through a strict Constitutional interpretation of what the state should be.

And yeah, what you said about the messiah complex is so true. That is so antithetical to everything RP and, by definition, anti-authority libertarians of all stripes. In fact, his aversion to any hero worship is probably part of the reason why he’d never win higher office in this country, never mind his radical politics. Americans expect bloviating wind bags as their president, not thoughtful minds with a firm grasp on history and economics.

        • very true.  His intellect was part of his weakness.  He was unable to relate his positions in terms of simple meta-narratives.  He would try to explain extremely complicated ideas in thirty seconds which inevitably appeared all over the place and his answers were often over the head of the typical interviewer and viewer.  The biggest hindrance to him was that the two major parties have built their coalitions around elements who loathe liberty, and unless you are a billionaire there is no way to contend with party machinery.

        • Yep. It’s Democracy: The God that Failed.

  4. “Onslaught of obnoxious kids named Barack.”   That’s for sure.  Expect “Obama” too.  It will be interesting to see the list of the most popular names over the next few years.

  5. One thing is certain. Arguing for socialist-style policies will only create further conflict between ethnic groups regardless of the ethnicity of the president, pseudo-messianic platitudes notwithstanding. Mr. Vuk explains:

  6. By the way, is there still a (little green) chat room going on in the parallel universe? Does anyone use that places? Or did Anders get sucked into some big security sweep in is home town where the poor little bear lived?

  9. Here’s the kind of shit we have to put up with in the Golden (shower) State of California:

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday proposed billions in spending cuts and a three-year, 1.5 cent increase in the sales tax to close the state’s soaring budget deficit.

    [snip...]

The state sales tax now is 7.25 percent, but many cities and counties have added to that with their own charges.

That’s right. So after the Governator gets through hosing us they’re going to add another 0.25% for a commie commuter train that just got passed. Our sales taxes in my county will then be 9.25%. I gotta get out of this damn place.

    • No doubt about, Mikel, the people of Taxifornia are idiots.  Every election they add tens of billions of dollars in debt with idiotic bond issues.  The voters are so stupid they think bonds mean free money.  And in much of the state the sales tax will be near or over ten percent since cities and counties can pile on the state sales tax.  How much you wanna be all or at least some of the sales tax increas will be permanent?  Arnie and the rest of the politicians are nothing but thieves and the voters are idiots.  There’s just no other way to put it.
